The Small Sea is a part of the lake, separated by Olkhon. It is the strait, expanding from the south-west to north-east, its length is 76 km., maximum width is 17 km., and maximum depth is 200 m. This is one of the broadest shallow parts of the lake, full of fish.

Olkhon Island is separated from the mainland by strait Olkhonskiye vorota. Length of the island is 71 km., width – up to 12 km, the area – 730 sq. km. The island is located in the central part of Lake Baikal, near the highest mark of the depth (1637 m) at equal distance from northern and southern ends of the lake. All the variety of natural landscapes of Baikal’s shores gathered on the territory of Olkhon. In the Buryat language “Olkhon” means “little forest”. It is a real reserve of surprisingly varied landscapes and magnificent sceneries for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. The territory of the island is rich for archaeological monuments.

Day 1

Arrival in Irkutsk. A short city excursion in Irkutsk, transfer to Listvyanka, which is located 70 km from Irkutsk. Accommodation at the hotel .Lunch. Visiting the Limnological museum, the viewing point, the church in Nicola settlement, the museum of wooden architecture in Taltsy. Return to the hotel. Dinner. Free time.

Day 2

Breakfast. Departure by “Hivus” (hovercraft) to Olkhon at leisure base of Nikita Bencharov in Khuzhir (250 km from Listvyanka). The Bencharovs are the first Olkhon entrepreneurs in the tourism sector. On the way, stop at Peschanaya Bay (80 km from Listvyanka) for walking and examining the rock shoes Large and Small Belltowers, framing the bay, grottos; lunch on nature near Krestovsky Cape, examining of Sagan-Zaba cliff (160 km from Listvyanka) with ancient petroglyphs. Arrival in Khuzhir. Accommodation. Dinner. For those interested -bathhouse.

Day 3

Breakfast. Tour across the Small Sea along Olkhon to Cape Khoboy. For those wishing-fishing. Lunch. Dinner.

Day 4

Breakfast. Excursion to the Norternmost point of Olkhon Island, Khoboy Cape. The beautiful landscapes, sparkling ice of Lake Baikal, ice grottoes and hummocks. Picnic under open – air will be cooked on the fire. Return to the hotel. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5

Breakfast. Return to Listvyanka with stops at liked places and lunch on the way.Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner

Breakfast. Transfer to the airport or the railway station. Seeing off.

Difference between the trains is that the retro train has a real steam locomotive at the head of the train. This fact makes the train more authentic. The carriages of both trains are almost the same, except that the electric train has two classes of carriage.

What should we take for a winter trip?

Participants of the tour must have adequate warm clothes for winter expeditions and additional equipment: a sleeping bag, a down jacket, insulated coveralls, a fleece jacket, a warm hat, 2 pairs of warm socks and gloves, winter boots, sunglasses, insect repellent, sunscreen, a personal flashlight, personal first aid kit, a large towel for bathing in the springs.

Is tick vaccination necessary?

It is strongly recommended to have vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis. Ticks are active from early May to mid-July. Although we avoid visiting places of greatest tick-borne activity, insurance of encephalitis is included in the cost of our active tours.
