Irkutsk - Shumak – Irkutsk

SHUMAK is an amazing region, hidden among gorges and blue waterfalls, at an altitude of 1558 meters above sea level. Shumak is often called “Small Tibet”, one of the most mysterious places in Siberia. People from all over the world are striving here to be filled with the energy of Shumak and touch his secret. You will hear many legends about Shumak and its sacred places, taste the water from the legendary healing springs of Shumak.

Irkutsk - Valley of Volcanoes - Irkutsk

Imagine: a great height and you see the craters of large extinct volcanoes: Peretolchina and Kropotkina, wild beaches, the Zhom-Bolok rivers, a huge number of waterfalls and lakes in the mountains (the largest lake in the valley is Khara-Nur). During the stop, you can see the vast spaces that are covered with dried lava, take a guided tour of the Peretolchin volcano – climb the slope and descend to the center of the crater. And there, at the bottom of the crater – a lake with a diameter of about 10 m.

Irkutsk - Top of the Snezhnaya River - Irkutsk

The Snezhnaya River begins on the southern slopes of Khamar-Daban and flows into Lake Baikal. It has many small rivers and tributaries, which makes it deep and wide. Irkutsk - Listvyanka - Circum-Baikal Railway - Irkutsk

An interesting sightseeing flight to Lake Baikal will provide an opportunity from a bird’s eye view to view the geomorphological natural monument – the Shaman Stone, in the beginning of the Angara River, to see the underwater dump in Larch Bay. The flight is at a low altitude along the Krugobaikalskaya railway, part of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Travelers will be able to get acquainted with the unique engineering structures that were built manually: with tunnels (the longest is at the Polovinnaya station – 778 m), galleries, bridges and other engineering monuments.

What should we take for a winter trip?

Participants of the tour must have adequate warm clothes for winter expeditions and additional equipment: a sleeping bag, a down jacket, insulated coveralls, a fleece jacket, a warm hat, 2 pairs of warm socks and gloves, winter boots, sunglasses, insect repellent, sunscreen, a personal flashlight, personal first aid kit, a large towel for bathing in the springs.

Is tick vaccination necessary?

It is strongly recommended to have vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis. Ticks are active from early May to mid-July. Although we avoid visiting places of greatest tick-borne activity, insurance of encephalitis is included in the cost of our active tours.
